Welcome to the Spring School of the current Thematic Einstein Forum (TEF) on “Scales of Temporality: Modeling Time and Predictability in the Literary and Mathematical Sciences”!

In the current Winter Semester 2022/23, MATH+ is collaborating with the Cluster of Excellence “Temporal Communities” in the Thematic Einstein Forum on “Scales of Temporality: Modeling Time and Predictability in the Literary and Mathematical Sciences.” The collaboration aims to explore common grounds and similar problems both in the mathematical sciences and the humanities, particularly the philologies and the literary studies.

As a concluding activity, a Spring School will be offered from 27-30 March 2023 at Freie Universität Berlin. The Spring School on “Logic, Limits, Contingency: A Critical Digital Spring School” will bring together students and younger researchers from both fields to enhance a discussion on modes of temporality in the data-driven / digital humanities. In seminars and working groups, participants will be presented with case studies from literary history and sociology of literature. At the same time, the school aims to provide introductory courses in statistical methods and basic programming. The event will be conducted in English.

Up to ten PhD researchers will be invited to partake in this Spring School. If you are a PhD researcher working outside of Berlin, we might have a few spots with travel stipends available. Please note this in your application.

  • The call for participation can be found here.
  • Deadline is 01 March 2023.
  • Please send your applications (<500 words) promptly, as limited space is available and applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

The Thematic Einstein Forum (TEF) ends with the Final Conference on 31 March 2023 to synthesize findings from the TEF and focus on promising areas for further collaborative research between mathematics and literary sciences on scales of temporality. More information will follow soon.
