07 November – “Science Slam” at Berlin Science Week

As in previous years, the Berlin “Clusters of Excellence” once again teamed up to organize the “2024 SCIENCE SLAM” for Berlin Science Week, held on 07 November 2024. The Science Slam consistently draws strong interest in the research presented by the participating Clusters of Excellence. Check out the short recording of the 2024 Science Slam!

Slammin’ like there’s no tomorrow – young scientists from the Berlin clusters did everything they could to entertain the audience. Whether they talked about application-oriented mathematics (MATH+), intelligent research (Science of Intelligence), catalysis/green chemistry (UniSysCat), liberal order (SCRIPTS), material research (Matters of Activity), neuroscience (NeuroCure), or world literature (Temporal Communities), the broad spectrum had something for everyone and sparked curiosity to learn more about each cluster.

The sky was the limit when it came to creativity: costumes, props, videos, PowerPoint presentations, even experimental setups—it was all allowed. The only rule? Each slammer had just ten minutes max. And the audience got to decide who delivered the best presentation!

MATH+ was proudly represented by BMS Phase II student HSUEH Chun-Sheng and Postdoc Gregor Pasemann, both from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. They explained their research in entertaining 10-minute talks in English for the general public—competing against PhD students and postdocs from the six other Berlin Clusters of Excellence.

Fun was guaranteed, and we were thrilled to have the audience cheer on our MATH+ representatives Chun-Sheng and Gregor.
