As in previous years, the Berlin Clusters of Excellence once again teamed up to host the “2025 SCIENCE SLAM” as part of the Berlin Science Week, which took place on November 6, 2025. The Science Slam continued to draw great interest thanks to its outstanding and entertaining research presentations across a wide range of disciplines, brought to the audience by the participating Clusters of Excellence.
Slammin’ like there’s no tomorrow—young scientists from the Berlin clusters once again took the stage to entertain and inspire the audience. Whether they spoke about application-oriented mathematics (MATH+), intelligent research (Science of Intelligence), green chemistry and catalysis (UniSysCat), liberal order (SCRIPTS), material research (Matters of Activity), neuroscience (NeuroCure), or world literature (Temporal Communities)—the broad spectrum of topics offered something for everyone and sparked curiosity to learn more about each cluster’s research.
Creativity knew no bounds: costumes, props, videos, PowerPoint slides, even experimental setups—everything was allowed! The only rule? Each slammer has a maximum of around seven minutes, and the audience decided who delivered the best presentation.
This year, MATH+ was represented by two BMS PhD students: Marwa Zainelabdeen (Freie Universität Berlin & WIAS) and Katarina Krivokuća (Freie Universität Berlin). Both presented their current research in engaging 7-minute talks in English for the general public, competing against PhD students and postdocs from the six other Berlin Clusters of Excellence.

The audience and participants had a great time, and we are already looking forward to the next Science Slam at Berlin Science Week in 2026! We hope you will join us again for cheering up the slammers.
