Das „Exzellente Pub Quiz“ bei der „Langen Nacht der Wissenschaften” am 22. Juni 2024 an der TU Berlin machte allen großen Spaß! Veranstaltet wurde das Pub-Quiz wie schon im Vorjahr von den sieben Berliner Exzellenzclustern mit Fragen aus ihren Forschungsbereichen. 39 Teams wetteiferten in zwei Quiz-Runden à einer Stunde mit insgesamt ca. 130 Teilnehmenden um die tollen Preise für die Sieger.

 

Die Gewinner-Teams der beiden Quiz-Runden waren das „Getränke-Team“ und „Team Flasche“, doch waren sie – wie wir später erfuhren – weder miteinander bekannt noch verwandt 😊. Vielleicht lag die Namensähnlichkeit auch daran, dass das „Exzellente Pub Quiz” zum ersten Mal einen Getränkestand als Nachbarn hatte, der vom TU-Studenten-Café Shila organisiert wurde und alle hervorragend mit Getränken versorgte. Gute Stimmung und Laune waren somit garantiert!

 

Ab 18:00 ging es mit der Anmeldung los und sofort registrierten sich die ersten 2-4 Personen-Teams mit lustigen und kreativen Namen, um sich einen Platz an einem der Tische zu sichern. Die Teams „Wir-kriegen-nix“ und „Team Weißnicht“ gingen leider wirklich leer aus. Aber ums Wissen ging es auch bei den spannenden, lustigen und überraschenden Fragen aus den Forschungsbereichen der sieben Cluster nicht, sondern eher ums Spaß-haben beim gemeinsamen Diskutieren, Rätseln und Raten. Wer weiß schon, wieviel Geld für die Entwicklung von Quantentechnologie in Deutschland bereit gestellt wurde oder woher der Name „Tropische Geometrie“, ein Teilgebiet der Mathematik, kommt?

 

Bei den zwei unterschiedlichen Quiz-Runden blieb keine Synapse ungenutzt, denn die Fragen aus den sieben faszinierenden Forschungsfeldern der Cluster waren sehr breit gefächert: von anwendungsorientierter Mathematik (MATH+), Intelligenter Forschung (Science of Intelligence), Katalyse/Grüner Chemie (UniSysCat) über Liberale Ordnung (SCRIPTS) und Materialforschung (Matters of Activity) zu Neurowissenschaften (NeuroCure) und Weltliteratur (Temporal Communities). Das breite Spektrum bot für jede*n etwas und machte neugierig auf mehr Informationen zu den einzelnen Clustern.

 

Jeweils um 20:00 Uhr und 21:30 Uhr waren die beiden Quiz-Runden zu Ende und die Gewinner-Team wurden ermittelt, zum Teil auch erst nach weiteren Fragen im Stechen. Die Teams auf den ersten drei Plätzen waren:

 

Erste Quiz-Runde

1. Platz: Getränke-Team | 2. Platz: Schmatte | 3. Platz: Squaddra Azzura

Zweite Quiz-Runde

1. Platz: Team Flasche | 2. Platz: ZAK Attack | 3. Platz: Das Eishörnchen

 

Wer dann noch mehr über die Forschung der Cluster wissen wollte, hatte am Info-Tisch Gelegenheit, Fragen zu stellen, give-aways auszuwählen und Info-Material mitzunehmen. Eine Poster-Session gab zusätzlich Auskunft über die Forschungsthemen der sieben Berliner Exzellenzcluster.

 

Alle Teilnehmenden wurden mit einem sehr lustigen und lebhaften Abend mit vielen spannenden und neugierig machenden Themen belohnt. Wir freuen uns schon auf nächstes Jahr, wenn es wieder heißt: Freund*innen für ein Team einladen und einen kreativen/lustigen Team-Namen auswählen, um beim “Exzellenten Pub Quiz” der sieben Berliner Exzellenzcluster mitzumachen und tolle Preise gewinnen zu können!

The “Excellent Pub Quiz” at the “Long Night of the Sciences” on 22 June 2024 at TU Berlin was great fun for everyone! As in the previous year, the pub quiz was organized by the seven Berlin Excellence Clusters with questions from their research areas. This time, 39 teams with a total of about 130 participants competed in two quiz rounds of one hour each for the great prizes for the winners.

 

The winning teams of the two quiz rounds were the “Getränke-Team” (Drink Team) and “Team Flasche” (Team Bottle), but as we learned later, they were neither acquainted nor related 😊. Perhaps the similarity in names was also due to the fact that, for the first time, the “Excellent Pub Quiz” had a beverage stand as a neighbor, organized by the TU Student Café Shila, which awesomely supplied everyone with a wide range of drinks. This guaranteed a good mood and atmosphere, of course!

 

Registration began at 6:00 PM, and immediately the first 2-4 person teams with funny and creative names registered to secure a spot at one of the tables. Unfortunately, the teams “Wir-kriegen-nix” (We-get-nothing) and “Team Weißnicht” (Team Don’t-Know) really came away empty-handed. But the focus wasn’t on knowledge with the exciting, funny, and surprising questions from the research areas of the seven clusters, but rather on having fun while discussing, puzzling, and guessing together. Who really knows how much money the government has allocated for the development of quantum technology or where the name “Tropical Geometry,” a subfield of mathematics, comes from?

 

In the two different quiz rounds, no synapse was left unused, as the questions from the seven fascinating research fields of the clusters were very diverse: from applied-oriented mathematics (MATH+), intelligent research (Science of Intelligence), catalysis/green chemistry (UniSysCat) to liberal order (SCRIPTS), material research (Matters of Activity), neuroscience (NeuroCure), and world literature (Temporal Communities). The broad spectrum offered something for everyone and sparked curiosity for more information about the individual clusters.

 

The two quiz rounds ended at 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM, respectively, and the winning teams were determined, sometimes only after additional tiebreaker questions. The teams in the top three places were:

Those who wanted to know more about the research of the clusters had the opportunity to ask questions, choose giveaways, and take information material at the info desk. A poster session also provided information about the research topics of the seven Berlin Excellence Clusters.

 

All participants were rewarded with a very funny and lively evening filled with many exciting and curiosity-arousing topics. We are already looking forward to next year, when it will be time again to invite friends to form a team and choose a creative/funny team name to participate in the “Excellent Pub Quiz” of the seven Berlin Excellence Clusters and win great prizes!
