The second and final Network Meeting for the YAM Cohort 2025/26 was hosted by MATH+ in Berlin at the new IMoS building on 6 and 7 July 2026. The seven 2025/26 Fellows of the Young African Mathematicians (YAM) Fellowship Program (from Berlin, Bonn, Heidelberg, and Münster) got together with the coordinators of the YAM Network from the four German Clusters of Excellence in mathematics to celebrate the conclusion of their fellowships.
Following a walking tour of Berlin on Monday morning, the YAM Fellows presented their research projects which they had worked on during their time in Germany and shared their experiences. The coordinators met Monday afternoon to discuss new developments for the program and joined the fellows again in the evening for dinner at Café Hardenberg.
On Tuesday, MATH+ postdoctoral researcher Dominic Bunnett from TU Berlin gave an inspiring talk on career opportunities and applying for PhD positions in mathematics. A feedback session, led by MATH+ member Ralf Kornhuber, during which the group reflected on memorable aspects of the program and discussed many new ideas for future cohorts, concluded the two-day meeting. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for all members of the 2025/26 cohort to connect in person. We wish them every success in their future academic careers.
The YAM Fellowship Program supports talented and motivated young African mathematicians after they completed their master’s degree at one of the six AIMS centers. By participating in the activities of one of four German Clusters of Excellence, fellows benefit from an outstanding international research environment while expanding their academic networks. The program includes a nine- to twelve-months research stay, a structured course program, a stipend covering travel, living, and accommodation expenses, and comprehensive academic and practical support from advisors, YAM coordinators, peers, and staff.
MATH+ is proud to host the 2025/26 YAM Fellows Kessel Wilson Mbouche Nzali and Manuella Kristeva Nakam Yopdup, who were previously featured in an interview and a short video.
